Judge visits critically ill MDC member in prison hospital

High Court judge, Justice Chinembiri Bhunu accompanied by defence and State lawyers is visiting critically ill Gapara Nyamadzawo at the Harare Central Prison hospital where he is admitted. Nyamadzawo is one of the 29 MDC members who are in remand prison awaiting trial at the High Court on false charges of murdering a police officer in Glen View, Harare last year.

The accused members’ trial was set to resume this morning but failed after the defence lawyers made an application for Nyamadzawo to be transferred to a private hospital where he will be able to receive better treatment. The officer-in-charge of Harare Remand Prison said the transfer of Nyamadzawo to a private hospital can only be done if the court authorised them to do so.

The State led by Prosecutor Edmore Nyazamba is opposing the application for Nyamadzawo to seek medical attention at a private hospital.

This morning, Nyamadzawo failed to appear in court following recommendations from doctors at Harare Central Prison hospital who said he condition was not safe for him to travel to court. Justice Bhunu is expected to make a ruling on the application this afternoon after visiting Nyamadzawo in hospital.

The people’s struggle for real change – Let’s finish it!!!
