Statement from the Secretary of Environment and Tourism

The MDC people’s choice party condemns the recent invasions of our natural tourism resource, the conservancies.  For many months now, the Chiredzi River Conservancy has been invaded by groups of people, with their cattle causing total devastation of the pristine environment. Elephants have been killed and their ivory stolen and other wild life poached often being subjected to slow deaths in snares.

These invasions have not just affected the conservancies but are now affecting the Gonarezhou National Park.  Leading many of these invasions are the notorious ZANU (PF)-aligned "Black Jesus" and his white counterpart, Ken Drummond.

The onus is on the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Walter Mzembi to follow up his statement in The Herald of 15th February 2012:
"Government has ordered an immediate stop to invasion of tourism assets such as hotels, holiday homes and conservancies and directed police to arrest those engaging in such acts."

Together, with commitment and passion, we can save our last remaining conservancies, national parks and heritage sites from devastation by invasions, mining and unscrupulous individuals.

Together to the end!

Kerry Kay
Secretary for Environment and Climate Change.
