Reports from Bikita say the police are sitting on the case despite efforts by Hon. Varandeni to establish the cause of the fire that razed the bus at Mashoko Business Centre in November last year.
Bikita South chairperson, Simon Ziki today said the police were down-playing the issue and were unwilling to carry out any meaningful investigations.
“Last week, Hon. Varandeni and I went to Bikita Police Station to check on the progress of the matter but it seems the police are deeply reluctant to investigate the cause of the fire,” said Ziki.
“The bus was burnt under mysterious circumstances and there is need to establish the facts on the ground. The police are simply sitting on the case and they are buying time so that the matter will gradually pale into insignificance,” he said.
Nyasha Makuku, the manager of Makuku transport, the company owned by the legislator said the arson attack could be politically motivated since cases of burnt property have been recorded before.
“We are simply worried about the prolonged duration of the investigations. We hope the police will speed up their investigations into the matter,” said Makuku.
