Deputy Chief Judge, Justice Luke Malaba today reserved judgment in the bail appeal by seven MDC members who are facing false charges of murdering a police officer to later this week at the Supreme Court.

The defence and State lawyers today finished making their submissions on the bail appeal with the State opposing bail. The seven were denied bail at the High Court last year after the judges ruled that they were a flight risk.

The seven are part of 29 MDC members including the MDC Youth Assembly chairperson, Solomon Madzore who have been arrested on the false charges of murdering the Glen View policeman.

Those appealing for bail are; Councillor Tungamirai Madzokere, brothers Lazarus and Stanford Maengahama, Phineas Nhatarikwa, Stanford Mangwiro, Yvonne Musarurwa and Rebecca Mafikeni.

Meanwhile, Madzore was on Friday granted the right to appeal and his case heard at the Supreme Court. Madzore was arrested in October last year and has been incarcerated at the Chikurubi Maximum Prison.  He has been denied bail twice at the High Court.

On a different note, all stakeholders are being advised of a Public Lecture Series to be held at Jameson Hotel, Harare on Wednesday, 15 February 2012 starting at 1730 hours.

The lecture will be on the Global Financial Crisis and Implications for the Third World. Zimbabwe will be the case study. Prominent academics Patrick Bond and Ibbo Mandaza will be the key speakers.
